WHAT IS THE HEALTH STAR RATING SYSTEM?
It is a front-of-pack labelling system that scores the nutritional value of packaged foods. Foods can score 1/2 a star to 5 stars. It is designed to be a quick and simple way for consumers to compare similar foods within a category and make healthier eating choices.

HOW ARE HEALTH STAR RATINGS CALCULATED
Each product's Health Star Rating is calculated based on the quantity of its specific food components energy, saturated fat, sugars, sodium, protein and dietary fibre; as well as its fruit, vegetable, nut and legume content, per 100g.
WHO DEVELOPED THE HEALTH STAR RATING SYSTEM?
The Health Star Rating system was developed by the Australian Government in conjunction with food companies, public health organisations and consumer groups. Currently, food companies can choose whether the Health Star Rating is on pack or not.
